Solution Full Orbit Cost Manager for Oracle Cloud

The challenge

Cloud service providers such as Oracle itemise costs at an individual, technical service level, while the business is responsible for functional environments such as 'development' or 'production'. As a result, engineers can barely assess the costs of their own services.

To gain control of this, engineering, procurement and finance needed a shared, understandable view of costs — rather than separate technical cost lines per cloud service.

The solution

Oracle provides an API that automatically collects metadata from individual cloud services. Enriching and grouping this metadata builds a picture of cloud consumption at a functional level — for example per environment, rather than per individual technical service.

Machine learning models, developed by Full Orbit, analyse this data to forecast historical, current and future cloud costs.

Results and value

Transparency on cloud costs

One clear cost picture for engineering, procurement and finance, instead of technical cost details per service.

Shared ownership

Teams jointly manage functional environments instead of separate, technical cloud services.

Savings through scheduling

Automatically switching environments off outside office hours, reflected directly in costs.

Proactive cost management

Alerts on unexpected forecast usage, before it becomes a problem.
