A future-proof cloud foundation for GGz Centraal
From an ageing server room and expiring data centre contracts to a future-proof cloud environment. Full Orbit guided GGz Centraal's move to Oracle Cloud, preserving existing systems and maintaining a secure connection to Microsoft Azure. The result is a reliable foundation for data and analytics, with room for new AI applications in healthcare.
The challenge
GGz Centraal's server room was due for renewal, and its data centre contracts were expiring. At the same time, the need for reliable data kept growing. The organisation wanted to safeguard the continuity of its analytics environment and create room for new applications, including AI.
The new environment had to connect to the existing Oracle databases and work alongside the Microsoft services and applications in Azure. Oracle Cloud Infrastructure provided a suitable foundation for this: familiar technology, room to scale, and an attractive cost model.
The approach
Careful preparation was the starting point. Together with GGz Centraal, Full Orbit mapped out the applications, databases and their interdependencies. This provided insight into the steps needed, the expected cloud costs and the impact on the organisation.
The team then set up separate development, test and production environments, with clear agreements on access and security. For the migration, a copy of the historical data was transferred first, after which the interim changes were updated. This allowed the team to start testing in the new environment early on. The existing data processing with Oracle Data Integrator remained usable, so no major rebuild was required.
The result
GGz Centraal now has a secure and scalable analytics environment in Oracle Cloud Infrastructure. The Oracle databases and analytics are connected to the existing Microsoft Azure environment. This keeps the different systems working together, allowing the organisation to build on the technology it already uses.
Full Orbit remained involved after the transition too. FO Cost Manager made it visible where unnecessary costs were arising. By automatically switching off development and test environments outside office hours, GGz Centraal was able to save on OCI costs. Further optimisation and continued development remain part of the collaboration.
OCI as the foundation for Oracle and Azure
GGz Centraal modernised its infrastructure without having to rebuild its existing Oracle environment. A carefully prepared migration, a secure connection to Azure, and active cost management together form the foundation for reliable data and further innovation in healthcare.
This migration proves that a well-considered Lift & Shift is more than just technology — it's a strategic step towards modern, agile, data-driven care.
