GGZ Centraal – a leading organisation in mental healthcare – relies daily on a robust data and analytics environment. This environment supports over 1,000 staff members in making informed decisions, improving the quality of care, and efficiently organising internal processes. Reliable and scalable access to data is crucial in this context.
As the server infrastructure aged and data centre contracts approached their end, a clear business case emerged: modernise to ensure continuity, security, and scalability. At the same time, the need for innovation through AI was growing – for example, to better leverage data for decision-making and process optimisation.
The decision was made to migrate to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) – not only because of its technological compatibility with the existing Oracle environment, but also due to its strong integration capabilities with Microsoft Azure, which hosts the Office environment and various applications, as well as its attractive pricing model.
In close collaboration, Full Orbit and GGZ Centraal carefully mapped out all applications, databases, and dependencies.
This provided not only control over the technical planning but also clear insight into expected cloud costs and the impact on the organisation.
Using standard templates for policies, user roles, and access management, Full Orbit built a secure and segregated OCI environment for development, testing, and production. Thanks to the Oracle-Microsoft partnership, a seamless network connection with Azure was established – both quickly and cost-effectively.
The migration to the cloud went smoothly thanks to the compatibility between Oracle databases. For large historical datasets, a smart approach was chosen: a snapshot combined with a delta load strategy. This allowed the existing ETL built with Oracle Data Integrator to remain in use and enabled early testing in the new environment.
GGZ Centraal now has a secure, scalable, and future-proof analytics environment – with full control over both performance and cost.
The performance of the new platform was excellent from the start, without the need for significant tuning. Using an early version of our FO Cost Manager, we quickly identified an optimisation: by automatically shutting down development and test environments outside office hours, a 60% cost saving on OCI was achieved. Full Orbit remains involved as a partner in the ongoing optimisation and further development of the platform.
This migration proves that a well-considered Lift & Shift is about more than just technology – it is a strategic step towards modern, agile, data-driven healthcare.
