Mental healthcare organisations are under increasing pressure to improve the quality of care, while healthcare professionals simultaneously face growing administrative workloads and limited time per client. One of the key challenges is formulating and documenting clear, measurable treatment goals: support requests are often expressed in abstract terms, whereas treatment plans need to be concrete, structured, and measurable.
GGz Centraal deliberately chose not to start with a large-scale programme, but with an AI Co-Creation Sprint proposed by Full Orbit: a short, intensive collaboration designed to quickly validate whether AI could genuinely deliver value.
The approach focused on one specific healthcare challenge, with direct involvement from healthcare professionals and close collaboration between care, data, and IT teams. Full Orbit combined healthcare expertise, data, and AI technology to translate the care-related challenge into a concrete AI use case.
The AI solution supports both client and healthcare professional in jointly defining concrete treatment goals. Based on a general support request, the AI generates proposals for personalised goals, including SMART criteria and suggested next steps. The healthcare professional then reviews and refines these proposals, after which progress is digitally recorded and monitored.
The AI Co-Creation Sprint resulted in a working prototype within a short timeframe and demonstrated that this approach can deliver real value within mental healthcare. Early results indicate greater structure in treatment pathways, reduced administrative pressure, and improved insight into progress.
The solution is currently in the pilot phase, with the next step focused on measuring time savings and the impact on treatment quality. GGz Centraal sees AI as a way to strengthen human-centred care — helping achieve better outcomes while supporting a future-proof organisation.
